International Duties for Geesala's Anthony Coyle.

Anthony Coyle the newly crowned All Ireland Youth Champion has been called up for squad training with the Elite Youth High Performance team. The training commences this Saturday in Dublin’s High Performance gym. Anthony will then train in Dublin from Monday to Friday over the next few weeks in preparation for the Brandenburg Cup, which takes place in late August in Germany. If all goes well for Anthony in training and competition he will be picked as part of the World Youth team for the World Championships, which take place in Bangkok this October. Anthony most certainly has an amazing International record. He has accumulated a Gold medal in Liverpool against an English champion, silver medal in the presidents cup in Baku Azerbaijan. Anthony has had the honour of captaining the team that took part in the European Junior Championships in Ukraine, it was very unfortunate when Anthony picked up a foot injury the day that the Championships begun which meant he could not take part in the competition. Geesala Boxing club wishes Anthony the best of luck with training and his participation in the Brandenburg Cup in Germany.

Achill Tournament 2012.

A great night was had by all at the Johnny Kilbane Tournament on Friday the 8th June in Óstan Oileán Acla in Achill. A large crowd turned out for the fantastic night of boxing. Every boxer performed to their best to impress the crowd. The all Connacht bouts where not to be missed as they battled until the last bell. The top of the bill fight between Anthony Coyle and John Tighe of Sligo was certainly entertaining to say the least. Both of these boxers were on top form and gave a great contest with Coyle getting the decision at the end. Unfortunately Rosie Conroy, James Carolan and Katie Rowland’s opponents did not show due to injuries so they had to bow out of the tournament.  All in all a fantastic night of boxing was produced in memory of the great late Johnny Kilbane. Thanks to everyone who supported this in any way it is very much appreciated.
